I'm a French horn player. Most horn players play=20
a double horn in F and Bb. I'm talking about=20
valved horns, not "natural" horns without valves.

Prior to the mid-19th century, parts were written=20
for these "natural" horns in many keys, from G up=20
to C, an octave and a fourth higher. When valves=20
came into use and the volume requirements=20
mandated larger bore instruments, all parts began=20
to be played on the same keyed instrument.

This is life, with all its changes.
