Subj: [kl] An interesting and wonderful work of Rossini
Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2007 12:39:31 -0500

The other night I turned on the cable chanel that presents music on my tv. I
heard an aria from Rossini's opera, "L'Italiana in Algeri," and specifically
the aria "Concedei, amor pietoso" sung by a tenor. The clarinet obligatto
was very extensive with multiple entirely solo clarinet passages as well as
accompaniment material of considerable distinction. Runs, leaps, trills,
etc. Typical of an operatic obligatto passage, but one I had never heard
before, mostly because I've never heard the opera and only performed the
overture from time to time.

Definitely a worth while piece to have in the repertoire if you are involved
in operatic performances. Killer piece.
