Don't forget about David Schiff's crowd-pleasing klezmer-styled "Suite
from Gimpel the Fool" which also calls for E-flat clarinet. Available
from the composer, who is on the faculty at Reed College.

But the Hindemith is, in fact, a perfect piece for a chamber music
workshop--this is one of the all time great pieces for this combination,
and among Hindemith's finest work ever, right up there with Mathis der
Maler.

Also, for anyone in Los Angeles who wants to hear the Schickele Quartet
and the Messiaen live, I will be playing them both in a concert Monday,
Dec. 17 at the Brand Library of Music and Art recital hall,1601 W
Mountain Street, in Glendale Ca. 8PM. Admission charge: $15/8. My
collaborators are: Barry Socher, violin (LA Phil member and first
violinist of the Armadillo String Quartet); Armen Ksajikian, cello
(assoc. principal cello of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, cellist
with the Armadillos) and Twyla Meyer, pianist (staff accompanist for CSU
Los Angeles and frequent chamber music and recital collaborative artist.)

Happy holidays to all,

Margaret Thornhill
