Comment by Beth Anderson to Be Performed by Demetrius Spaneas in St.
Petersburg, Russia on December 15

American composer Beth Anderson’s Comment, originally composed for solo
flute, will be performed on Saturday, December 15 at 5 PM by woodwind
virtuoso Demetrius Spaneas at the Mayakovsky Library in St. Petersburg,
Russia.

Comment was commissioned by Nina Assimakopoulos in 2003 and is based on
a Dorothy Parker poem of the same name.

The December 15 concert is entitled American Corners and is sponsored by
the U.S. State Department. It will also include works by American women
composers Carol Alban, Denise Broadhurst, Alex Shapiro and Molly Thompson.

Multiwind performer and composer Demetrius Spaneas currently lives in
St. Petersburg. During the 2007-08 season, he will be presenting
concerts, lectures and at festivals as both a performer and composer,
throughout Europe and Asia. Visit his websites at www.dspaneas.com,
www.myspace.com/demetriusspaneas and http://dspaneas.blogspot.com/.

Beth Anderson’s music has been described as having “a refreshing
simplicity without naiveté” and as –“deeply felt, direct, and yes,
beautiful” and “charming and deeply felt to the point of romanticism.”
Her latest CDs are new recordings by Nancy Boston of September Swale as
part of American Women: Modern Voices in Piano Music and Aleksandra
Maslovaric’s recordings of Belgian Tango and Tales #1 & #3 for violin
and piano on Feminae in Musica. An essay by Ms. Anderson about her music
for American Music Center’s NewMusicBox web magazine can be read at
http://www.newmusicbox.org/page.nmbx?id=53hf02.

Ms. Anderson has worked with New York video artist Dmitriy Khavin to
create two videos based on her beautiful Pennyroyal Swale for string
quartet. Mr. Khavin matched the music to the Kentucky landscapes and
other photos of James Archambeault. To view the videos, link to:
