Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions on how to
record a "pre-screen" CD for a music school
application.

I decided to go with doing at home, with one condenser
mic and Audacity recording software, which provides a
nice range of editing options.

I think it sounds pretty decent -- now the wait begins
to see if the school agrees!
