If you want someone else's - a famous name's - breathing advice, I think
Bonade marks breaths into the solo as it's printed in his excerpt book. Or
you can put any recording you like into your CD player and listen to that
player's breaths and phrasing. The solo isn't covered anywhere so it's easy
enough to hear what the player is doing.

But are we all talking about the same solo? The passage that goes up to D
with a diminuendo (if it's the passage I think Fred meant) is in the 2nd
Symphony, not the concerto. I've never found the solo in the concerto to be
enough of a problem to need circular breathing, although it might be useful
in the symphony solo as another alternative to having to choose between
grabbing too many breaths and passing out. :-)

Hi there,
Without meaning to start a flame debate - the best way to do this
solo is to circular breath - and if you can't, it's an excellent
opportunity to start learning! :) It's not a matter of "look what I
can do," I've always found that under pressure in that passage, you
feel much more relaxed if you're not worrying about running out of
air before your next breath point.
