How sad. I only met Bill once, at the Shackleton Symposium last June. A
delightful man, with kindness and immense learning. His "New Langwill" will
be (one of) his memorial(s) for many years to come.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am sorry to inform you that Bill Waterhouse is died this morning in
an hospital in Florence, Italy, after a five days fight against a
heart, liver and kidney failure.

He has been lively and enthusiastic until the very end and he was
surrounded by the love of his entire family who joined him a few days
ago.
