This is quite funny, Kevin, but 'the alto clarinet was invented in 1810 by
the German clarinetist and instrument maker Iwan Muler' - or August Grenser
- (so I read) and Adolph hadn't quite got round to being born.

This is probably true. I'm obviously not a true gentleman so I will confess
in public to owning an alto clarinet. I suffer from terrible size envy when
I see friends playing their bass clarinets. On the other hand, my back
doesn't suffer so much.
