Hi

I recently saw an old Buffet clarinet from around that
time.

My opinion of it (comparing with a modern one) is that
it had a very good sound, but less 'uniformity' (I
hope that's the right word) of all the notes i.e. some
notes were stuffy.
The mechanism and especially the double register
seemed like it would get out of adjustment a lot more
often (actually that was the problem with the one I
saw).
The keys also developed since then and for me the new
one is more comfortable (but some new ones are not, so
that's just something you need to check).

It is very hard to say a new one is worth $5,000 (or
whatever it is now) more. I think the price is
reasonable if it is in the best condition it can be.
