I found that cancellations dropped SIGNIFICANTLY when I began the 24
hour notice policy and month in advance payments for my private
students. I offer possible make-up times (not guaranteed) for
conflicts known ahead of time. I have offered credit for next month
for significant reasons, including my own conflicts while full time in
grad school when it was almost impossible to reschedule.

This is standard for most of the serious private teachers in the area.

One parent offered to pay when his daughter missed a lessons because
she was in the hospital... I did NOT take payment in that situation.
