Vincent,

I speak for on me here...but I would head to school. I know many people who
have joined "non-Premier" bands (those not in DC) and many have had to serve
in combat. A close friend from college joined an Army band and has been in
Iraq the past year and 3 months. He has picked up his trumpet 6 times in
that year. He has picked up his weapon every single day and night and uses
it often, especially on night patrols.
If you want to be a musician in the military...go to college and work hard
to win a premier band position where the threat of deployment is minimal to
zero.
