I agree with Bill that a talented student should have a very good instrument.
If you belive that she deserves it, find a mentor who will support her in the next 5 years.
Probably there are different foundations who give grants or loans to buy instruments.

However, I find that the most important thing is to do everything quitley without any pressure on the student.
She should never feel that she must play because you helped her.
