Well, you need to add another step. Give the "blown-out" ones to excellent
repair techs to see what can be done to reverse the process. I don't think
anyone in this discussion has denied that some clarinets may over time
deteriorate or that Fred's clarinet has something wrong with it. No one has
claimed that he's imagining the problems he described. The issue seems to be
whether or not the deterioration is irreparable and whether or not the only
protection against such deterioration is to replace the clarinet and discard
the "blown-out" one.
