Vincent =0AI have some thoughts and comments for your questions. First my h=
usband has been in the military for 9 plus years first the Marine Corps and=
now the Air Force and I actually was going to go the same route you are lo=
oking into, but decided going to college first would be best. Being in the =
military band you will most likely not see combat unless they are in dire n=
eed of bodies and in that case you will be in the rear or guarding the gate=
s of a base. I can not answer your question on the quality of music as I do=
not know its been over 10 years when I tried for the Navy band. Now on the=
comment of going to college to wait for the adminstration to change...that=
is a low blow for a person who is looking to join the military. I have my =
own beliefs on that and will keep my comments to myself....but you can go t=
o college join the ROTC which will give you money for college and then when=
you finish college you have to give at least 4 years to the military, so y=
ou
are kind of serving but you are also learning and not giving up on your ex=
tended education. Good luck and do well. =0AAnastacia Caldwell =0A=0A=0A=0A=

9 PM =0ASubject: [kl] Military Bands =0A=0A=0AHello, I'm a high school seni=
or trying to figure out what I'm going to do =0Awith the rest of my life. I=
do know I am planning on majoring in 'Music =0AEducation'. One of my optio=
ns I have been presented with thus far is going =0Ainto a military band. I =
have done some research online(including some old =0Aklarinet archives) and=
I am going to have my private lessons teacher give me =0Asome contacts. Th=
ough I would also like to get a few more new and updated =0Aopinions from e=
xperienced military band members. =0A=0AMy current status for each branch: =
=0A=0A- I have auditioned for the Marine band, I received a '2.95' on the =
=0Aaudition and I will try again in the near future to get above a '3'. I a=
m =0Aalso going to talk to my recruiters boss this week and discuss some de=
tails =0Aon joining the Marines. =0A- There is a discrepancy with my dad an=
d a contract they want him to =0Asign for the Army, so I have yet to do my =
audition for them. =0A- I am currently going to be receiving some informati=
on about the Air =0AForce and Navy so I can audition for them also. =0A=0AM=
y main questions are: =0A=0A1. What are the possibilities of a normal band =
member to be sent out =0Afor combat? =0A2. What kind of quality of music do=
es each branch play? =0A3. Should I possibly wait until after a couple year=
s of college to =0Ajoin the military? (For the new presidential administrat=
ion and for the =0Aexperience of college life) =0A=0AThank you very much! =

Just for a bit of humor. A quote I found searching the klarinet achieves. =
