Any competent technician should be able to correct your problem
easily, either by replacing/altering the shaft that is tightened by
the nut that holds the peg in place, or perhaps by roughing up the
surface of the peg so it will grip better. Assuming you always set
the peg to the same height, which would be true when playing standing
(but less so for sitting, unless you always use the same chair), your
clamp idea will also work. A whole new peg should not be required.
