I played one of these back in college. I recall the sensation as you
mentioned. The Leblanc peg is rather flexible. Perhaps a stiffer
metal may work. Maybe you may be able to find some rod stock that may
fit at a hardware store. The next option as you mention might be a
leg from a floor tom.
