I'm driving from Bainbridge Island just off the coast at Seattle to Santa
Fe, New Mexico for the opera and my first night's stop was at Pendleton,
Oregon. I like to look up the concert activities in all the towns I visit,
becuase you never know when you might find very interesting performances.

This morning on the breakfast table at the Holiday Inn Express, the schedule
of the Oregon East Symphony and Chorale was given. Beginning in late Oct and
going until June, there is a 7-concert series, though the individual concert
details were not given. For example, on Sunday, Mar. 2, there is going to be
a program called "Puccini with Passion." I'd be very good making up names
like that for concerts: how's Hysteria with Handel sound?

But there is also a summer music camp for orchestera, jazz band, and choir
as well as a tour of the Oregon East Symphony guild with food, music, and
local histroy.

So even here, in the relatively isolated area bordering on Idaho (where I'll
be spending the night at Twin Falls), there is a lively music series. Look
it up on www.oregoneastsymphony.org. But I should not be surprised at this.
I was once hired to play basset horn in Richland, Washington at the Columbia
River Music Festival, and that is very isolated area in eastern Washington,
the orchestra was very pleasant.

And in a brief email conversation with Sean Osborne when I was within
throwing distance of him, he told me to say hello to the two clarinetists
(in Cosi fan Tutte) at the Santa Fe Opera, Todd Levy and Erika Shrauger,
neither of whom I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
