From Wikipedia article :

<<Care must be used when working this wood, as its sawdust is dangerous;
many people develop an allergy when exposed to it. A sawdust collecting system
must be in operation.>>

It is my experience that the sawdust is fairly inert. I have handled it
safely for many years.

However, if the wood reaches too high a temperature when worked on the
lathe, it seems to release some sort of resin into the atmosphere - the odor is
quite distinctive. This is what seems to be very toxic to me. Several times
when this has happened, I have developed a form of dermatitis, very similar to
poison ivy.

When I work with cocobolo now, I use a mask and a dust collection system,
and I turn the wood at very slow speeds.

Regarding the previous discussions, I do agree with Clark that the work must
be done over a long period of time to allow the wood to adjust, and the
final reaming must be done by hand.
