Possibly. Or that people are now so accustomed to the ear-piercing
shriek of rock that they can no longer hear acoustic
music. Remember, when Benny Goodman opened at the Roosevelt Grill
(replacing Guy Lombardo) back in 1935 or so, they complained that he
was too loud. And consider that today's mouthpieces and instruments
tend to be louder and brighter than those of the '30s and '40s. Like
I said, our band does not amplify very much. I should think people
in the room would rather be able to converse without vocal strain, an
idea that is completely foreign to rockers.
