I didn't expect my tag line to raise so much reaction (and in this case
mostly positive!).

My point only was, that in this world we have much contamination, one of the
shapes it takes is noise. I didn't state this very explicitely, I agree, but
in my previous mails to the list this was the main topic.

I will try to be more explicit now, but I will start with a more theoretical
consideraton.

Music is supposed to express feelings, sentiments, or whatever you like to
call it. Part of this is, that you apply refinements in dynamics, tempo, and
so on.

But our "modern" generation doesn't sem to understand this. Whem I am in a
train (and often I am!) I hear the squeacking sound of what once use to be
walkmen, now their cd and mp3 counterparts, but I can not miss the
contribution these audio machines give to my travelling "joy". I like to be
alone with my Beethoven, ..., and he must not be shout down by other kinds
of music. I do not take a walkman or mp3-player with me in public
transportation.

but when I read

>>" There is a fair amount of medical evidence that each generation is
> > deafer than the previous one. (Didn't YOUR parents think that your
>> records were played too loud?)."

I wonder, what medical evidence exists: I never read anything about it, in
the contrary, hearing ability seems to be part of all organisms, that rather
tends to sharpen! Of course it is a primary sense in the existance of all
life forms on earth, olifaction being the first one and hearing even before
sight being the second one! And hearing in animal evolution always has been
important, thus I cannot imagine in the course of the Darwinian development
of species there can be one form of life (originating in mankind,
remember!!!) thastneeds no, or hardly any hearing. I have a problrm eith my
earts, and I can tell you, there are no (repeat: NO) evolutionary advantages
in loosing your hearing!

To be short: we all must undertake whateer we ca to prevent deafness within
the next generation!

"The orchestra was wonderful", he said, "it played so loud I couldn't even
hear what they were playing!"
