I remember seeing the Duke Ellington orchestra (led by Mercer) in the
Longshoreman's Hall (I think) near the waterfront in Boston in the
mid-70s. Only the singer was mic'ed.

That band was so loud, I almost couldn't stand it. But the music was
divine.

And I used to play bass in bands that sounded like Cream.
