That's pretty much what MY tag line is about, too. The big band I
play in does mic everybody, but mostly for the monitor speakers,
which are not very loud (sometimes I actually wish they were up a bit
more!). I'm sure the amplification helps for the outdoor gigs and
even the large ballroom we often play, but in very small venues we
sometimes do without. On the whole I'd prefer it that way more of the time.
