Il Covegno is a work that appears suddenly to have come from
nowhere. I can't remember a single performance of the
composition until perhaps a decade ago. Is this charming work a
new discovery?

It is clear that rediscovered old works are coming into the
repertoire more and more frequently, so when did Il Covegno
arrive and who is the person to whom we should be indebted for
having dragged it out of some dusty archive or library?

A search on the www came up with 1000 hits but only the first 10
had anything of real importance and not one of those spoke of the
origin of the work. David Hite did an arrangement in San Antonio
in 1991 and one player gave a master class in Italy with it (and
the Mendelssohn concertpieces) more recently.

Where did this work come from? He or she should get a prize.
