Subj: [kl] accidental usage
Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2007 09:46:51 -0400

According to The Harvard Dictionary:
"In modern practice a sign affects the note immmediately following and is
valid for all notes of the same pitch (but not in different octaves) within
the same measure."

My experience is that while this may be the rule....it is not necessarily
what happens in practice....esp. when dealing hand written scores and parts
(shows, recordings, original manuscripts). More often than not, and esp.
with regard to commercial music, many composers, arrangers, and
copyists assume that the accidental is valid for the entire bar without
regard to the octave.
