No problem at all, along with renting a car in the US and driving in (as
I will be). The rental agency I'm going with restricts the car to the
BC/Vancouver area. I just drove through Ontario to go from Detroit, MI
to Canadaigua, NY and back again this past weekend (Ontario is a
shortcut for me ...)
Passports aren't required, but are recommended - I get through the
immigration/customs booths pretty quick with them. From
http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/brochures/brochures_1229.html :
*CANADA* – Passport or proof of U.S. citizenship such as a birth
certificate, naturalization certificate, and photo ID required. Minors
(under 16) traveling alone or in someone else’s custody must present
written authorization, signed before a notary, from the parent(s) or
guardian. Visas are not required. "
