I live in the Philadelphia area (Elkins Park) and have been searching =

some time for an amateur orchestra such as the one you play in. Would it =

I play in an orchestra that meets weekly to read literature. We haven't
performed except for benefit concerts in many years. About half of us in =
the
orchestra freelance for pay in the Philadelphia area and the rest are =
very
interested amateurs. We run a donation drive among the orchestra's =
members
once a year, when we are asked to give what we can - the expectation is =
that
those who have well-paid jobs either in or out of music will contribute =
more
than students who may have little money of their own. Most of the money =
that
is collected goes to pay the conductors a small honorarium (some of them
don't take it and conduct gratis) as well as a few expenses related to =
the
site in which we rehearse.
