Most of the community groups I've encountered in the UK charge an annual=
membership fee ranging from about =A350-=A3100 a year. In all cases these=
annual subs are a key part of the financial well being of the group. This=
is my experience for groups that are registered charities, run as adult=
education classes and less formal community groups.

In general the groups I know of require the annual sub to pay for the=
rehearsal costs (ie. hire of the rehearsal venue and conductor's fees).=
Where music costs are significant (eg. wind bands where there are very=
limited opportunities to hire music) the subs help cover some of the new=
music. The concerts given often tend to be self supporting, with the=
audience ticket money paying for the costs of that evening only.=20
