Subj: RE: [kl] Community groups - membership fee?

I play in an orchestra that meets weekly to read literature. We haven't
performed except for benefit concerts in many years. About half of us in the
orchestra freelance for pay in the Philadelphia area and the rest are very
interested amateurs. We run a donation drive among the orchestra's members
once a year, when we are asked to give what we can - the expectation is that
those who have well-paid jobs either in or out of music will contribute more
than students who may have little money of their own. Most of the money that
is collected goes to pay the conductors a small honorarium (some of them
don't take it and conduct gratis) as well as a few expenses related to the
site in which we rehearse.
