I didn't say the emergency doubler plays *well*. . . .
;-)

The piece that requires the emergency doubler is fictional new music, so
that I have more control over the clues and more ways to rig up motives for
a variety of suspects. I used the "Symphonie Fantastique" suggestion for
the orchestra's program for the following week, before there's time to
audition and hire a permanent, fully-prepared replacement for the dead
man. The temporary replacement, of course, automatically becomes a
suspect. The conductor will need to decide whether to substitute another
piece.
