Gawd, you're as shameless as Dan. So tell us, which piece have you selected?
Curious minds want to know!

1500 words, you'll have that done by the weekend.

For use in a short story, I wrote,
>What I need is a suggestion for an orchestral work, long
>enough and important enough for the second half of a concert
>(a symphony or a ballet suite, for instance), in which a second
>clarinet is necessary but, without more than a couple minutes'
>notice, a different wind player would be able to pick up the
>missing man's instrument and cover his part....

Thanks to all of you who replied both on the list and privately. A
short-short is shorter than 1500 words, by the way. Several people thought
I'm writing a novel. I'm trying not to let "Symphonie Grotesque"
metastasize that way, since I've already got too many unfinished,
large-scale projects in progress and really can't take on another one.
However, because your excellent suggestions helped me think through the
idea, it's all your own fault if this novel, oops, I mean this extremely
short story, ever gets into print so that I can pimp it at you shamelessly.

Thank you again!
Lelia Loban
