Ed,
How's it goin'. I've never tried any S9s or Center Tones. I guess
these models could tune well. Frankly, tho, I've never met a modern
Selmer that is even CLOSE (except for one Recital). I have been
disgusted with the eefers I've tried. When I was searching for a new
'beefer', I tried quite a few and was quite disappointed. I have had
the misfortune of dealing with 3 bastard horns which were just plain
awful-in-tune. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) I was unable to
try out any recent bass clarinets when I bought my Prestige. However,
the older ones I tried were certainly nowhere near my new Prestige
(although definitely acceptable). I once made the acquaintance of an
S10 ceefer' which as quite badly out of tune.
In short, I'm sure that Selmer can and does make instruments that are
in tune. Unfortunately, I seem not to have come across many. To me,
they seem the exception, not the rule. I hope (for all our sakes) that
I have just been unlucky.
