Hi,

I don't know if you are aware about how dubbing works here in Spain and
in our neighbor Portugal. While in Spain ALL, and I mean absolutely all
movies, cartoons and TV series are dubbed into Spanish, in Portugal is
very common to watch all in the original language with subtitles in
Portuguese.

For that reason we have here a lot of good dubbing actors, and I can
tell you that the work is great (here we can talk also about how great
is the dubbing scriptwriters job), with a good synchronization, superb
expression, etc. So the film doesn't lack of anything but loosing the
original "voice" interpretation (wait, but sometimes the "dubbed"
interpretation is better than the original one :-) ). But this carries
some problems:
-I can't judge the actor work because I need the original voice
expression to do that, and in Spain sometimes we talk and criticize an
actor as if the dubbed voice were his own voice.

-We can see and hear (my town is very near Portuguese border) how in
Portugal there is a higher level of spoken English because all people,
since childhood, hears spoken English in cartoons, films, sitcoms, etc.

I live in a low populated area, and cable TV is a luxury far from here,
but for the last two years we receive digital terrestrial TV (is that
the word in English?), and some TV channels broadcast in both original
and dubbed language. With that and DVD I now try to watch the movie in
both dubbed and original language to improve my English (ouch, but
writing is quite different, sorry about my "written expression").

Juanfran
