I researched a teacher map for my students a few years back.

Frederic Beer taught
Hyacinthe Klose, who taught
Cyrille Rose, who taught
Prosper Mimart, who taught
Daniel Bonade, who taught
Lots of folks, including my teacher's teachers...!

I took lessons for a summer from Alfred Zetzer, bass clarinet in the =
Cleveland Orchestra, when I was 20. I was in over my head and did not =
realize it until years later. He had me work in the Rose 32 and I =
mentioned, as only an arrogant 20 year old can do..., that I had been =
through those etudes twice with two other teacher. He shot back that I =
had never studied them with HIM. That summer I learned he studied with =
Bonade as he kept saying that I would play them as he had learned them =
from Bonade who had learned them from a student of Rose. It was only a =
few years ago that I was able to trace my teachers back to Berr. By the =
way that summer of lessons was mind opening and I realized, even after =
that third run through the 32, that I had hardly scratched the surface of =
those etudes. =20

To all the students reading this...the quicker you humble yourself to a =
teacher and do everything they ask of you, the faster you will improve. =
Sponge everything you can from any given teacher and years later you will =
sift through what you learned. =20
