Perhaps your phrasing was poor, but there is simply no support for the
notion that that bin Laden was making "a statement=20
about the insensitivity, callousness, greed and hypocrisy of the
policies of the capitalistic society that is America." That statement
may reflect your views, but it does not reflect bin Laden's.=20
Radical Islam is driven by the view that anyone who disagrees with its
tenets is an infidel whose life is meaningless. It seeks to establish a
world-wide caliphate in which all of us would be subject to the medieval
harshness of Shariah law. Bin Laden was driven by, among other things,
hatred for the freedom that America stands for, its support of Israel,
and by our stationing of armed forces on Saudi land.

Walt, I wasn't trying to tie them together explicitly, those are just=20
attributes that terrorists have stated they dislike about America. =20
Capitalism isn't bad by itself, but it can be manipulated by those with=20
certain attributes.

In any case, I was simply trying to indicate to Sarah that 9/11 wasn't=20
at all about racism, more about nationalism.
