Sarah,

On 9/11, 3000 people died because they worked in a pair of symbolic
buildings that to a group of fanatics could be used to make a statement
about the insensitivity, callousness, greed and hypocrisy of the
policies of the capitalistic society that is America.

The fact that we let those attacks fundamentally change our society, not
to be better and participate more consciously and holistically in the
world but to withdraw and become more isolationist and afraid, indicates
that the terrorists had won by 9/12. The fact that we conflated those
attacks with Saddam Hussein and used that as an excuse to invade a
sovereign nation has done even more to harm our standing in the world
and has thus drastically increased the chances of something like that
happening again.
