I often travel with multiple instruments, and have taken them round the
world three times! You are allowed by the TSA to take on one instrument in a
case that fits into an overhead locker in addition to your carry on. You
should be able to confirm this on your airline's web site, and you might
want to print this out as the check-in agent does not always know, and
Israel flights have extra security. I have never had to check an instrument
except when I had two clarinets, a basset horn and a bass to carry! (Then, I
checked the bass clarinet, in a Wiseman case).

So the solution is to carry your clarinet(s) in your normal carry-on and
your alto sax as the extra. You may not have anything else packed in the
alto sax case (other than padding). You may want to get a lightweight,
compact case for your clarinet(s), such as a BAM case.

Subject: [kl] case for alto sax and clarinet

I need some advice. I am going to Ammon, Jordan in a few weeks and need to
take my alto sax and just found out that I also need to take my clarinet (I
am going to play in the Ammon Symphony while I am there) I have only found
one combo case online and it is too big for a carry on. I am not really
comfortable checking my clarinets. They are a brand new set of Festivals
that took me 9 months to find! If I could find a combo case that is the
right size, I could carry everything on with me.

Any advice?

Thanks Deborah
