Nitai posted re long bass pegs:

<<<The peg is just too restrictive in general. Also when I play with dancers
I sometimes move a lot - move around and many different ways (almost like
dancing really).>>>

Why? Don't. Trust me - the dancers look better that you do.

There was a colloquy on the list a few years back about "movement" and
clarinet playing (and conducting). Conductors don't have embouchures to
bounce out of shape, but IMHO many "dance" too much (for the audience) and
don't bother being much use to the musicians.

I understand how a bit of movement can kinetically help one's rhythm. There
are many folks who take this more than a bit too far - at least for me, the
over-the-top movements of many musicians are be distracting at best, and at
worst clearly diminish tone quality etc.

Nitai continues:

<<<Also, I play in too many varied scenarios for cuing (this is correct
spelling?) to always be subtle. When I need to signal the drummer who is in
full energy and behind me, an eyebrow movement won't do it :-)>>>

. . . you need to fire your drummer and hire a percussionist.
