Many thanks to both Fred and Tony for answering this question, I had thought
it probably meant that, as it seemed in the context of the music but wanted
to make sure.
I did wonder whether it was possibly a misspelling - but it was written in
several places on the music I am working on - Pastorale Cevanole
Thanks again.

There is no such word in Italian. It could be a misspelling of 'cedendo',
meaning 'yielding'; and if so, probably means 'slowing down' (as in the
French 'cédez').
