Subj: [kl] Klarinet list prize report

Recently I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had won a custom
barrel by Allan Segal as a prize in the Klarinet mailing list support
fandango (nomenclature?).

Allan graciously offered to make in cocobolo, grenadilla or rosewood for
any of my clarinets. After mulling, I decided to ask for a barrel for
my main squeeze, a Buffet RC Prestige. I choose coco.

Allan made up the barrel pronto with an Moennig taper. I've played it
now for about a month.

I'm extremely happy to say that this barrel far surpasses the original
equipment barrel (personally blessed by everyone's friend Francois). It
also plays rings around the Buffet Moennnig barrel I had been using.

It tunes better, it rings better, it takes less effort to play, the
sound is more focus and the dynamic range is much, much better. It
plays louder and best of all, at p and pp, the tone retains clarity and
resonance. After looking hard, I can't find anything that my Buffet
barrels do better.

So Allan knows his stuff and I wish I'd known about it sooner; I would
have bought this immediately if I'd know what it could do for me (my bad).

My thanks to Allan for the barrel and to Mark Charette and his associate
for providing this forum.
