Personally, I heard the BSO (Baltimore Symphony, that is) perform Sibelius'
Symphony #1 on the 10th of this month (March) and I hope to be able to
perform THAT piece one day, along with (of course) K.622 and Messiaen's
"Quator pour la fin du Temps" talk about powerful pieces! Oy gevalt!

Also I have heard a piece by Reinecke that is quite good, it is for a
quartet: Clarinet, Violin, Cello and (French) Horn. Quite amazing piece.

I am a big fan of Weber as well and Brahms as well.

And oh, Mr. Leeson, recently go your book: "The Mozart Forgeries" and plan
to read it over the summer, may I let you know what I think after I've read
it?

Finally, I think the Vandoren Hand-selected reeds, even with a little work
on Ridenour's ATG system turn out to be some of the finest Reeds I have used
so far. But then again I would only consider myself an intermediate amateur
at best, and nothing to compare with any of you out here in cyber-dom.

Thanks to all who offered to help me with my reed dilemma, and thanks to Mr.
Leeson for bringing up his Copland hiccup, we all have them, it all depends
on our frame of mind at a particular time I would suppose, and I guess maybe
the mood just wasn't conducive for you and hearing Copland that night.

Kismet does have a funny way of intervening at times, and planting the seeds
for insight, doesn't it? Think about it for a moment, won't you Dan?

This past weekend I heard a performance of Copland's 3rd
symphony. I was at the world premiere of the work at Carnegie
Hall in NY when it was given its first performance in 1946. I
hated it.

Then I played it about 30 years ago and realized what a simpleton
I was. It was a fabulous work.

I went out of my way to hear this past weekend's performance, and
it's even better than I remembered. Magnificent piece. May you
all get to play it some day.
