In some ways. The sound emanating from a jackalope when it is stepped
on is not dissimilar to the sound of a sarrusophone.

One of the key problems with the sarrusophone is that it is difficult to
produce a tone that could be labeled "pleasant". It was developed as a
way to allow double-reed instruments to participate in marching bands.
The bassoon is somewhat difficult to play while marching, and its rather
delicate tone cannot compete with the trumpets and trombones. The
sarrusophone can definitely compete with any brass instrument.
