Subj: [kl] Los Angeles Clarinet Choir concert: yet another premiere!
Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2007 12:25:00 -0400

The Los Angeles Clarinet Choir offers the premiere of yet another new
work for clarinet choir at its Spring Concert, Saturday, March 31, at
7:30 PM at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Avenue, La
Crescenta. The program will be repeated Sunday, April 1, at 4PM, at St.
Edmunds Episcopal, San Marino, 1175 San Gabriel Blvd, San Marino. A $10
donation is suggested. There will be a reception after the April
concert. Proceeds from the concerts will help with expenses for our
upcoming trip to Canada to perform at the ICA Clarinetfest.

The program will feature Victoria Ramos, a doctoral candidate at the USC
Thornton School of Music, as clarinet soloist in the "Concertino" for
solo clarinet after themes of Tartini by Gordon Jacob (Jacob's own
arrangement for clarinet choir.)
At USC, Ms. Ramos studies with David Howard and Yehuda Gilad, and
previously studied with David Ross at the University of Texas, El Paso.
She is a music educator in Burbank, California.

A major new work in its premiere performance on these concerts is the
"Serenade, Op. 22" by Antonin Dvorak, transcribed by the distinguished
arranger, tuba soloist, and teacher Barton Cummings, whose compositions
and arrangements for winds are well known. Barton's biography may be
found at: http://www.brassworks4.com/composers.html

The Serenade is a rich textured, five movement, half-hour long late
romantic work filled with Czech dance rhythms characteristic of Dvorak's
music. It sounds fabulous for clarinets! In addition, a double quartet
of E-flat, soprano, alto and bass clarinets will perform three movements
of the popular "Histoire du Tango" by Astor Piazzola, (in the
arrangement by Claude Voirpy and Bruce Edwards.)

If you're in Southern California that weekend, we hope to meet you at
the concert! For more information you may email me off list or call us
at 310--464-7653.
