Gerry Fried told us a story--I think it must also have been about
Labate--at a Kammermusik workshop a few years ago: After seemingly
interminable rehearsal of a passage involving the oboe, he said,
"Maestro, I'm a'gonna play this one more time. You want it now, or
tonight?"
