Ted Johnson sat second chair to Robert Marcellus in the Cleveland
Orchestra. He was a remarkable player, who matched Marcellus
perfectly. Kalmen Opperman loved his playing and said that he could
have had most principal jobs if he had wanted them.

He monitored this board several years ago and contributed a number of
interesting postings. Among other things, he said that he usually
played principal in the Cleveland Pops and that some of the important
solos, which are indistinguishable from Marcellus, were actually his
work.

He obviously allowed his name to be put on mouthpieces, but I don't
know whether he made them himself. Greg Smith, David Hattner or
others who studied with Marcellus can probably tell us more.
