Thanks for all the comments! Perhaps I should clarify my needs a little
more. I have been offered the opportunity to play in a band, but tenor
sax is not my instrument. I have a soprano sax, but that doesn't suit
the music they play. I would like to get a reasonable instrument that
will play in tune, and sound reasonable, without paying a great deal of
money. Having scanned ebay, it looks like Trevor James saxes go for
around £300 - £340, a price I am prepared to pay. Yamaha saxes seem less
frequently sold. The are a whole plethora of cheap (and probably
useless) chinese instruments which I will avoid, but some of the other
names, like Selmer Bundy are unknown to me, but from the comments
probably OK. Boosey & Hawkes are (I believe) a UK based company, so
maybe not so well known in the USA. Again, it looks like they are
reasonable instruments, and are sold for a fair price. I would love a
Yana, but I will wait and see how I get on with something a little
cheaper first! I am not in a desperate hurry, so I will keep looking
before making the plunge (unless I see a bargain!).
