Paul,
While the YTS is definitely better than the Bundy, the Bundy is just
fine for beginners. I know a Jazzer here who is a killer sax player and
plays on his Bundy. They are quite durable, being made to stand up to
kids' abuse. If price is a consideration, the Bundy is a reasonable
choice.
That said, virtually ANY reputable company (like Boosey, e.g.) will
make a playable student instrument which will last for decades, with
regular maintenance. Among student instruments, the quality of sound
and tuning are not as much of an issue as for professional instruments.
The thing to look for, in my 25 years of experience teaching, is
durability and, for an adult, a comfortable key layout. All modern
student instruments are designed for little hands and this, can be
uncomfortable to an adult. If you have large hands, I would recommend
looking for an older (before 1960) used instrument (like an old Evette
or Conn) or even a used professional instrument. Whatever you buy, if
you get advanced enough for tone and tuning to be an issue, you will be
ready to trade up to a better horn anyway.
