The instrumentation for "Der Rosenkavalier" includes 2 clarinets (Both
playing Bb, A and C clarinets), Eb clarinet and bass clarinet/basset horn.

The San Francisco Opera will be playing "Der Rosenkavalier" this summer. I
have played it several times with the SF Opera and I always play 2nd
clarinet, which is a lovely part. It is one of the great scores of the 2oth
Century and in my humble opinion among the very best music composed by R.
Strauss. If you have not played a Strauss opera you are indeed missing one
of the most satisfying musical experiences possible. Of course, that
assumes, a good orchestra, great singers, a superb conductor and several
good reeds!
