Just getting around to reading the collected klarinet-mails. I agree with David that the mouthpiece is very likely to be at fault and it's most likely but it doesn't necessarily have to be the rails. If its an older mouthpiece the chamber (inside) could have changed too. Another thing I've noticed is that if you have a patch for your teeth on top and it's too high and slips up just barely over the tip that that causes a turbulence and makes the tone rougher.
