One of my primary clarinet instructors, Lee Gibson, embraced Kell..and to
all of his students benefit. Kell would often show up at the early Clarinet
Festival in Denver, a guest of Gibson or other US player/teachers he had
become close friends with. I was fortunate to meet him at several of the
early meetings in Denver. Kell was a unique. I never heard Kell play, other
than his recordings.

In 1979, I was in Glenwood Springs, Colorado...walking along a street
downtown, lined with tourist shops. I walked into a very nice art gallery.
In the gallery was a wonderful canvas that Kell had done. He was a fine
artist and had made his mark using music notation in a variety of ways to
create wonderful art. The canvas was 4X3 framed and was only $300...and was
an original. My wife, Susan, was still in dental school and I was teaching a
heavy load of students to make ends meet...so the money was just not there
for the purchase. Regrets....Kell was to live only two years longer. He died
in Frankfort, Kentucky in 1981.
