We are (or are supposed to be) talking about the Mendelssohn, and
if Nancy's comments were about the Schubert, then there was
clearly a misunderstanding on her part.

Ummm, I thought we were talking about the Mendelssohn Octet,
which is a
string-only work. Nancy seems to be describing the Schubert
Octet, the
Barenreiter edition of which is as Nancy describes and is
excellent.
